Brief history of Mental Records...

John Foote, a twenty-year veteran to the film/motion picture and entertainment industry, owner of Land Mind Productions, and life-long punk rocker, founded mental Records in 1995. John established the label after returning to Southern Oregon from L.A. fueled with a passion to create and direct music videos. Foote started the label on a grassroots level by promoting local punk shows in hopes of finding a few bands to work with while also filming and recording each show with the vision of one day creating a dynamic multimedia-based indie label.

The label efforts went dormant in 1999 and were resuscitated in 2004 when Foote met Doug Hill, a resident entrepreneur, music artist, and recording studio owner.

Hill, also involved in the punk/music scene is the owner/engineer of 60 Psycho Hum Recording Studios. He grew up performing, founding several bands, and studying music. Hill knew he had a lot to offer music artists by way of engineering, mentoring, teaching and recording, performing and writing music and desired to expand those efforts past his private studio and own personal bands.

The collaboration was a natural fit for Foote and Hill whose backgrounds not only complimented each other, but their vision for something unique drove the label and was fueled by a cooperative passion for music and multimedia. After two years of label development and seeking and signing the “right” bands to fit the label brand, Mental Records was ready to hit the steady and unpredictable music scene represented by a roster that veteran labels would be envious of. This new line-up for the upstart label brings an amazing diversity. Mental Records is poised to become a legitimate player in the industry forging it’s own brand with a unique blueprint.

Mental Records is an independent record label that utilizes both the age-old and emerging distribution techniques to create access to music-based media for the masses.

Mental Records is inspired by new developing media technologies to assist and advance the distribution and access of music-based media, while trying to preserve the integrity of “paying the artist” for their craft by battling unfortunate downloads and copying of music that have destroyed the intellectual value of music as a common commodity.

Mental Records is working to develop new techniques and styles to distribute and create market awareness for the artists who are associated with this label.

Mental Records is an artist development label, taking new talent to the Industry and preparing them with essential experience to advance and take their musical careers to the highest level possible.

Mental Records is a media-based label utilizing its own resources to develop compelling visual media to not only support and compliment the visual components that all music has built in, but to give their bands and face in today’s market.

A few essential media partners back mental Records; 60 Psycho Hum Studios, a state of the art recording studio, Land Mind Productions, a film and media design company built in a 40,000 sq. ft. production facility, and 1 off designs, an in-house photography company. The alliances with these groups gives Mental Records the immediate in-house resources to create full recording and media support for the artists on Mental Records.
