Spare Change is our Mental Records produced compilation album.  For the first volume Doug and John chose to go to their backyard and create a compilation that featured bands from Southern Oregon, home of Mental Records.

Doug and John were both able to utilize their industry resources in the making of this compilation album. Co-owner Doug Hill recorded every track in his studio 60 Psycho Hum Studios.  Doug engineered and recorded all tracks.  John then utilized his company, Land Mind Productions, and its 50,000 square foot film and production facility to film the video of Radioman’s “Among” featured in the interactive portion of the CD-ROM.

Doug and John then went onto the finale by producing the record release show that featured 14 of the contributing bands.  Each band played about a 30 minute set.  The door cover was $15 and included a copy of the CD.  It was a great success (over 350 paid) and Spare Change Volume 1 not only showed the diversity and talent that the Mental Records dynamic offers as a label by combining the internal resources of the recording studio and film production studio, but it also surprised a lot of people by showing them what an amazingly talented and diverse music scene little ol’ Southern Oregon has to offer.
