Community Spotlight

Welcome to our Community Spotlight page. Each month we'll be featuring a special member of our growing Mental Records Community. We'll be giving shout outs and special recognition for those folks who have a particular connection to Mental Records, our artists, our music and what we do and what we believe in.

 Congratulations Dave Carriveau!

Our featured community spotlight member for May is Dave Carriveau of Chicopee, Mass. Dave recently took over the top spot on our official T4 Project "Join the Revolution" Street Team .  Here's what Dave had to tell us about himself.....

"The reason I like and support the T4 project is because I think that the message is dead on. From the medical industry to big business cutting down acres of land to censorship it's all just wrong. That's not the way that society is supposed to be and people just accept it for the way that it is, and I've thought this for a very long time and this album has finally brought these facts to light."

" I like music because it helps me express certain feelings and thoughts that are going on in my head. If I'm in a shitty mood for whatever reason and throw on a certain album it just kicks the bad mood in the ass and gives me a little hope that the day or week is going to be better. Music is just the most powerful thing I have ever seen. It can bring me to tears, it can make me yell, it can make me smile, or it can make me say 'Holy shit'. It's just a very powerful entity."

Dave's major musical influences are: Strung Out, Straylight Run, Brand New, The Arcade Fire, John Lennon, Smashing Pumpkins, The T4 Project, The Get Up Kids, Fun Size, Modest Mouse, Louis Armstrong, Comeback Kid, Bane, Shai Hulud, Casey Jones, obviously from my earlier years; Nirvana, Suicidal Tendencies, NoFX... Dave still thinks that Punk in Drublic is the best true "punk" album ever made.

We asked Dave to share his favorite live concert experience with us and here's what he had to tell us....

"It was probably a show I went to a few years ago now but it was by far the best show I've ever been to. It was in Boston at the Avalon Ballroom right on Lansdowne St, which is right behind Fenway Park. The show bill was Bane, Comeback Kid, and Strung Out as the headliner. Comeback Kid was the opener which I figured was only because Bane is from around here and they had more fans here than CBK. Anyways, CBK played an AMAZING set. Everything was right on and everything sounded great. For their last song a few of the guys from Bane came out and sang along on stage with CBK which was awesome. Then Bane came out and got a huge ovation and played amazingly, and from what I hear played songs they normally don't play when they're on tour. In between Bane and S.O. I saw the singer for CBK so I went up to him and told him they had a really good set and he said thanks and we talked for a few, just about music in general and what he listens to and stuff like that which was awesome. Then S.O. came on and played the best set I've every seen them play in the 12 times I've seen them. All of my personal favorite songs of theirs they played, like I picked the set list. After their set I was lucky enough to get a drum stick and a set list from the guys and I talked to Jason for a couple of minutes about his art. So all in all that's probably the coolest concert experience I can think of."

Thanks for making me the fan of the month for May....Dave.

Our pleasure Dave. We are way into connecting with our listeners and learning more about them.
